Course Summary

Introduction

This course will exemplify your ability to work in the configuration and building of tenants in Workday. Workday Calculated fields training supports many functions that enable you to use existing data as well as derive new values. One can learn how to create fields that manipulate dates and text, evaluates conditions, work with data from related objects, and performs arithmetic calculations. This course also teaches the methodology to add calculated fields to custom reports for meeting complex business requirements. Calculated fields can also be used for the transformation of Workday data in outbound integrations on the requirements of external systems.

Calculated Fields Abstraction

Calculated fields can be defined as configurable fields associated with business objects that use data in Workday. The data can be viewed  how and where you want it by performing arithmetic calculations, creating logical and conditional expressions, and transforming it as per your requirements. They enable you to work with data in your tenant on transactions throughout Workday for business processes, integrations. reporting and other scheduled recurring processes. Functions can be performed for different calculation requirements that enable you to aggregate, group, or summarize data. Various tasks or events can be performed inclusive of concatenating a series of text fields within Workday, conversion of currency, converting data types, creating date, numeric, or text fields and values, logical reasoning and for the performance of organizational role assignments. Other major functions of calculated fields include but are not limited to determination of appropriate range band for numeric fields, value of a field as of a specific date, drilling down on organizational hierarchy, entering values for Workday-delivered fields with built-in prompts as well as extracting single instances or multiple instances, and either count or sum related instances.

Calculated Fields Security

User-security for calculated fields is determined by the relevant fields in a report and  the returned values for both report-specific and tenant-wide fields are configured accordingly. Having authorization to see all field values in a calculated field, you can appropriate value returns. Without authorization, there are zero displays for currency or numeric fields and empty displays for all other field types. In order to maintain control and consistency, create additional security groups to grant specific actions or limit access to specific individuals for domains such as custom field management and private calculated field management.

Report-Specific Calculated Fields

Report-specific calculated fields are calculated fields used within a single report definition. They can also be created by selecting Create Calculated Field for Report within prompts in a report definition, such as the business objects or the fields on advanced reports, comparison values on transposed reports, fields on search reports, grouping fields for matrix or nBox reports, summarization fields on trending reports.

Calculated Field Functions

Functions in calculated fields can be used to perform simple arithmetic calculations with requirements such as the need for calculations to have the same currency code field value,  existence of numeric constants in arithmetic calculations, use of parentheses to specify the order and the like.
